Blood Moon Eclipse

Full Blood Moon Eclipse in Virgo 2025

The Full Moon graces the sky in Virgo on 14th March, although this is no usual lunation. This moon is not only a full Lunar Eclipse but also a Blood Moon, which has not occurred since 2022.

This is the first in a series of three Blood Moon Eclipses, with the next occurring in September 2025 and March 2026. Together, this powerful trio unfolds as a journey of personal growth, self-discovery, and transformation, offering both individual and collective evolution opportunities.

This Blood Moon is part of a larger cosmic conversation, accompanied by a stellium of planets in Pisces, which extends the Piscean influence of the previous New Moon and intensifies the impact of this lunation. Interestingly, the September Blood Moon will also occur in Pisces, further cementing the profound significance of Piscean energy at this time.

Finally, with Venus and Mercury in retrograde, we are invited to slow down and revisit past experiences with fresh eyes, offering opportunities to look and look again, uncovering insights we may have previously overlooked. This period of reflection allows us to fully integrate the lessons of the Blood Moon, explore hidden inner depths, and resolve any lingering threads before stepping forward.

Blood Moon Awakening

A Blood Moon Eclipse occurs when the Earth casts its shadow upon the full moon, refracting sunlight in a way that bathes the moon in a striking reddish hue. These lunar events have long been regarded as portents of power, transformation, and profound awakening; signifying shifts on both personal and spiritual levels.

Yet, eclipses always carry an element of duality, revealing both light and shadow. From a personal transformational perspective, this means we will need to face our own dualities, and we may need to confront aspects within our own inner shadows.

This Blood Moon calls us to explore the deeper, often hidden aspects of ourselves; the emotions, truths, and layers we may have buried beneath the surface. By asking What else? What else? What else?, we consciously strip away pretences and superficiality, unveiling the truths that have lingered in our unconscious. These may be aspects of ourselves we’ve ignored, feared, or deemed unworthy; but undoubtedly the parts we hide from others and even from ourselves. This Blood Moon is the perfect time to bring these elements of self into the light and acknowledging them with honesty. This provides us with the opportunity to determine what still resonates and what we are ready to release.

Eclipses are often associated with endings and new beginnings, urging us to break free from old patterns and embrace fresh opportunities. A Blood Moon Eclipse functions as a cosmic reset; clearing the path for transformation and guiding us forward with renewed clarity and purpose. In this interplay of light and dark, endings and beginnings, destruction and renewal, we are invited to approach the moment with curiosity and wonder. This allow us to remain open to the boundless potential and possibilities unfolding before us.

During this undeniably powerfully and transformative time, reflective questions can help to clarify your thinking and support you in making the most of this energy:

Where in your life might there be negative or stagnant energy that needs releasing? How might you balance the light and dark within yourself and your life? What are your hidden truths? What is coming to an end in your life and where can you welcome something new?

A Full Moon with a Virgoan flavour

The Virgoan nature of this Blood Moon brings an opportunity for radical self-acceptance. Virgo is often maligned as being archetypically the sign of being overly meticulous or critical, yet this rather narrow view overlooks the true gift of Virgo.

Virgo invites us to consider the comparison between what our ideals are and what our reality is, who we are now and who we could be; with a little work and effort. With Virgo’s influence, we might find ourselves striving for excellence, hungry for self-improvement, pushing to become masters of ourselves and our craft. Engaging in and perfecting the skills needed for the right kind of work that aligns with our sense of purpose and that serves others. Virgo teaches us to rise above self-doubt and self-criticism and to replace them with a deep sense of dignity, self-respect, and the sense of fulfilment and satisfaction that comes from meaningful, well-executed work, that is appreciated by, and helpful to others.

Yet, under the influence of this Blood Moon, the drive for improvement must be tempered with balance. The shadow side of Virgo’s pursuit of excellence is overthinking, perfectionism, and an endless cycle of self-critique that can prevent us from achieving and reaching our full potential. As Steven Forrest wisely reminds us, “perfect is the enemy of good enough.” A first attempt exists only to pave the way for future growth; it is never meant to be the final word.

While we might strive for perfection it is a destination we can never hope to arrive at, as there is always room for improvement or refinement. This Blood Moon reminds us to be gentle with ourselves, to release the need for rigid perfection, and to ensure that in both our inner dialogue and our conversations with others, we speak with compassion, kindness and understanding.

Essentially, we are practicing radical acceptance for self and others, what could this look like for you?

Where might you be pushing too hard or seeking perfection?

Where do you judge yourself or others too harshly?

Who are you now, who could you be, and what are you making this mean?

What might you consider the ‘right’ work for you and why?

Where are you mastering your skills and offering these in service to others?

Calling all mentors – could this be you?

The Blood Moon may be a time when we seek out mentors to guide us on our journey of growth and development or, conversely, when others turn to us for our knowledge and expertise. This dynamic of apprenticeship, of the teacher-student or mentor-mentee relationship, is a deeply Virgoan theme, yet one that is often overlooked.

Growth, evolution, and transformation form the very fabric of life, its essence. We are here to learn, to change and to redefine ourselves; definitely Virgo’s wheelhouse. Some of you may be familiar with the notion of ‘pay it forward’, the idea that a kindness received is repaid by extending generosity to someone else. In many ways, this mirrors the cycle of learning: acquiring knowledge, developing skills and then passing them on. Under this Virgoan Blood Moon, we might recognise this as a different form of mastery; one that serves not only ourselves but also the greater whole, definitely work that matters.

Of course, this does not diminish the value of self-study, nor does it discount the discipline and effort required to bring our dreams into reality. But as the theosophical saying goes, “the teacher appears when the student is ready.” This Full Moon encourages us to remain open, both to receiving wisdom and to offering it in turn. Whether we are the learner or the guide, this exchange is profoundly empowering for both.

As we continue on our journey, this Moon invites us to reflect on the knowledge and wisdom we choose to preserve, evolve, and carry forward; shaping not only ourselves but also those who walk alongside us. This certainly adds further reflective dimensions to our Virgoan musings.

Where have you been positively guided in your life?

Where might you need a mentor now?

Where have you or could you be the guide and share your knowledge with others?

What truths align with the core of your being? What changes, if any, might this encourage you to make?

It’s all in the discernment

With the abundance of Piscean energy in the skies and the heightened emotions that often accompany a Full Moon, we may feel overwhelmed, as if events around us are beyond our control. Yet, Virgo offers a grounding gift of discernment and an earthy practicality. When life feels chaotic, the best way forward is often the simplest; one step, one task at a time.

Be discerning and intentional with where you place your energy and focus.  Pause, reflect and examine the details of your life. Reassess your health, work, and daily habits; consider what is serving you and what is not.  Where might you need healthier routines? What habits, thoughts, or obligations are weighing you down? Just as spring calls us to clear out the old, this Full Moon is a perfect time for decluttering; both physically and emotionally, resetting and releasing, and creating space for rebirth, renewal and new beginnings.

The Virgo Blood Moon Eclipse urges us to release what no longer serves us;  old stories, outdated beliefs, and limiting patterns. With Virgo in our corner we are supported in distinguishing what nurtures our growth and what drains our energy. It teaches us to set boundaries and to say no when needed; reclaiming our energy. This Moon also invites us to confront the shadow aspects of ourselves; the parts we often turn away from, and to challenge self-doubt and criticism, to accept ourselves for who we really are.

Virgo reminds us that the devil is in the details, and that even the seemingly mundane holds power. When we approach our daily tasks with purpose and presence, we infuse them with meaning, finding greater fulfilment in the ordinary. Wisdom is often revealed not in constant striving, but in pausing, allowing, and simply being. Sometimes, the most profound inspiration comes when we stop pushing and instead chop wood, carry water; honouring each small, intentional step as a foundation for lasting transformation.

How can you ensure the demands of your daily life align with your inner truths?

What relationships, habits or mindsets need to be released in order to make way for new?

Where do you need to be more discerning? Why?

What changes do you need to make in your day-to-day life, including refining your habits and routines? Why?

Final thoughts

The Virgo Blood Moon offers a powerful invitation to realign, heal, and embrace transformation. Be discerning about where you invest your time and energy, refine your habits and routines, and release anything that no longer serves you; creating space for clarity, renewal, and growth.

Interestingly, Saturn in Pisces will also be active under this Blood Moon Eclipse. As the wise elder of the cosmos, Saturn calls us to consider our own “great work”, whatever that may be,  and to commit to it with intention and discipline.  Saturn’s presence ensures that we ground our aspirations in reality, while Virgo’s influence encourages us to refine and improve. Together, these energies create a potent force for profound transformation, but we have to do the work!

With the strong watery Piscean energy still swimming through the cosmic landscape, we are also called to dream new realties and ways of being. Virgo’s influence within this mix, makes this a powerful moment to pause and reconnect with what truly matters, asking ourselves:

Am I living a life that speaks to my deeper purpose?

How can serve others? And what will I make this mean?

However we answer, the current celestial alignment suggests that the cosmos, the universe whatever you believe in is calling. And in this moment, we would all do well to listen.
