Super Full Hunter’s Moon in Aries

Feeling the Moon Before it Arrives
I don’t know about you, but I swear I can feel this Full Moon humming in my bones before it even breaks the horizon. Maybe it’s the coffee, but more likely it’s the Supermoon in Aries warming up for its grand entrance on 7th October.
This isn’t just any old Moon. It’s a Hunter’s Moon, it’s a Supermoon, and we are still in Libra season. The Aries Supermoon effect is a fiery surge of energy that rises before the moon even takes its place in the sky. All the while, Libra quietly tries to keep the peace in the background. In other words, the cosmos is serving up a heady cocktail of fire, balance, release, and renewal. It’s a bit like: “Stand your ground, but also play nicely, and maybe roast a butternut squash while you’re at it.”
This Moon is here to remind you of your courage, your agency, your balance, and your ability to use this lunar fire to grow, even when life feels messy, unpredictable, or a little too much like an Aries headbutt.
You might find your emotions are a little louder than usual. I mean, I caught myself talking passionately to the kettle this morning (it listened politely, in case you’re wondering. Although thinking on it, that may not be down to just the Full Moon!)
As this moon surges boldly forward this Autumn, a good reflective question to ask yourself could be:
What do you need to release, like the trees letting go of their leaves, to make space for what’s next?
The Rise of the Supermoon
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a Supermoon! (Sorry, had to be done.)
A Supermoon happens when the Moon swings closer to the Earth than usual, making it appear larger and brighter than normal. It's like a moon with an extra sparkle. The proximity to the Earth intensifies the gravitational pull on tides and oceans, and this is a rhythm mirrored in our own emotional tides, for, after all, we too are largely made of water.
Therefore, from an astrological perspective, Supermoons tend to amplify emotions and energy and allow us to experience the effects of Aries more intensely. Think of it like the Moon with a megaphone. Everything feels a little louder, brighter, closer. This is the first of three Supermoons, with the others arriving in November and December.
And it’s also the Hunter’s Moon, the first Full Moon after the Harvest Moon. The Autumn equinox has passed, denoting the time of year when the days are growing shorter and the nights are drawing out. Metaphorically and quite literally, this draws attention to the balance of light and dark in our inner and outer world. The air changes, bringing a crisp chill to the wind that wakes you up, and the scent of earth and fallen leaves adds to the rich Autumnal tapestry.
Traditionally, at this time, hunters tracked game under the brighter light (hence Hunter’s Moon) and stored food for the lean winter months ahead. Symbolically, then, this is a Moon for gathering, preparing, and choosing wisely, for considering how we might replenish our energy, mind, body, spirit, and heart as we head further into Autumn and then Winter.
You might consider at this time:
What have you gathered, or need to gather, for your own inner panty?
What resources, habits, or inner strength might you need to sustain you?
What needs to be stored, or stocked up spiritually or emotionally?
Aries vs. Libra: The Cosmic Tug of War
I often like to allow my imagination to run wild when considering the archetypal cosmic conversation, the push/pull, that occurs within polarities.
For instance, Aries, the fiery ram charging forth in the night sky, yelling “ I AM HERE, I AM READY, LET'S GO AND LET'S GO THIS WAY NOW!”, while Libra more self-consciously says, “yes, sweetie, but that a little loud and have you considered how everyone else might feel about this?” while scanning to see if anyone else is looking.
As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries speaks to our identity, our physical vitality, and our autonomy. Aries reminds us of our strength. It is bold, fiery, and it invites us to not only take up space but to be unapologetically focused on the self. “This is who I am, and I’m not here to apologise for it.” The spirit of Aries wants us to be our whole selves, empowered and courageous, choosing life, playing to win, and fighting for our place in what can be a challenging world.
Whereas Libra is graceful, relational, and harmony-driven. “Yes, but how do we create balance, beauty, and fairness together?” It is Libra that reminds us to compromise, that there is beauty in balance, and harmony exists in all states of being.
The Aries Full Moon in Libra season pulls us right into this polarity: independence vs. interdependence, solitude vs. union, self-assertion vs. compromise.
But this isn’t either/or, it's both/and. We need both. Aries helps us light the fire of authenticity; it’s the spark, the initiator. Think of it like lighting the first autumn fire. Aries is the satisfying whoosh when the kindling catches. Libra reminds us to tend that fire so we are not left with a smouldering ash pile and cold toes. Oh, and not forgetting it is Libra that prevents Aries from setting our house on fire, burning it to the ground!
Embracing the polarity and the wisdom of both these energies, this Full Moon, you might consider:
Where are you dimming your spark to keep others comfortable? Or playing it small to keep the peace?
Where might you be charging ahead without a care for others?
What might “balanced boldness” look like for you?
The Fire of Aries with Mars at the Helm
Every zodiac sign has a planetary ruler, and for Aries, this is Mars. Mars is not the planet of chamomile tea, lavender shortbread, and cosy bedtime stories. It is the planet of passion, action, courage, but also impatience, conflict, and the occasional tantrum.
Mars energy is the fire in your belly when you finally say, “No more.” It’s the nudge that pushes you out of procrastination. It can also be the spark that makes you lash out before you think.
However, embracing your inner ‘badassery’ doesn’t mean conflict for conflict’s sake, although who among us would deny the right to fight for love, peace, justice, or in the protection of those we love. Nor does embracing our inner warrior/warrioress give us a free pass to be reckless, aggressive, or disruptive. This is where the deep wisdom of Mars and Aries' energy is often misunderstood or overlooked.
Aries and Mars encourage us to reflect on where we’ve allowed fear to grab the steering wheel of our lives, and to consider taking it back. Allowing something or someone else to steer us can not only heighten our stress, but with nowhere else to go, all that fire energy turns inward, leaving us lacking in energy, demotivated, and more often than not depressed.
Aries teaches us that, even though we are in Libra’s session honing our relational skills, we cannot relate to others with depth and authenticity unless we learn first how to relate to ourselves. We matter, our needs matter, and our hopes, dreams, and desires deserve to be honoured just as much as anyone else’s. That is a gift of Aries.
Mars reminds us that courage doesn’t always look like battle cries or require huge, dramatic leaps. Sometimes it’s the quiet decision to say no. Or to finally have that conversation you’ve been avoiding for goodness knows how long. It can be the nudge we need to set boundaries with love, or to permit ourselves to rest when everything in us wants to overwork until we are on the verge of collapse.
When dancing with fiery Mars this Full Moon, you might reflect on:
Where are you letting fear or other people’s expectations, or your need to people-please, steer your life?
What small but bold action could you take this week to reclaim your direction?
Hunter’s Moon Wisdom: Choosing Your Arrows Wisely
Imagine standing at the forest’s edge, bow drawn. Every arrow counts. You can’t waste energy firing into the dark willy-nilly. The Hunter’s Moon whispers: Be intentional. Choose wisely. Aim with purpose.
Aries energy is bold and impulsive; it wants to charge, leap, and fire all the arrows at once (and possibly headbutt the trees for good measure). Libra’s energy says: slow down, take aim, notice the balance, think of the bigger picture.
Our choices are arrows, and the Hunter’s Moon invites us to choose carefully where we send our energy. Each one loosed creates a ripple in the web of our lives.
The question this Moon asks is: What target are you really aiming for?
Where might you be scattering your energy, or aiming with intention?
What future are you choosing with your arrows, and do your daily choices reflect this?
Your Fire, Your Balance
So here we are: a glowing Super Full Hunter’s Moon in Aries rising in the crisp October sky, glowing like a cosmic lantern hung by the universe itself. It’s here to remind you that:
You are allowed to take up space.
You are allowed to choose courage, even in small ways. It doesn’t always roar; it can sometimes whisper.
You are allowed to release what no longer fuels your fire.
Autumn is about release and replenishment. You’re allowed both.
Balance doesn’t mean shrinking; it means shining without burning out.
And because reflection and action go hand in hand, here are a few practical suggestions:
Write down habits, fears, or patterns you’re ready to let go. Burn the paper (safely, please, remember Aries energy does not need help starting bonfires). Watch the smoke rise, and imagine yourself lighter.
Do one bold thing this week. It doesn’t have to be epic. Maybe it’s finally pressing send on that awkward email, saying “no” without apology, or signing up for something new. Small courage is still courage.
And, as it is Autumn and the Hunter’s Moon, you might cook something grounding and seasonal, roasted pumpkin, apple crumble, or root vegetable stew. As you stir, reflect on what you are “feeding” in your inner world this season.
Final Thoughts: Wrapping Up
At its core, Aries teaches us that growth, transformation, and change are never passive. They don’t happen by chance. As a cardinal fire sign, Aries urges us to embody courage, leadership, action, and determination. If we want something, we need to be prepared to go out and claim it; it rarely falls into our laps.
As the leaves fall and the nights stretch longer, may you find both the inner fire of Aries and the grace of Libra guiding your steps. Aim your arrows wisely, and may they always fly true. May your hearth stay warm, and your spirit gather everything it needs for the season ahead.
And if in doubt? Make soup. Always make soup.
Always brilliant words, have a great way of making you think.
